Boutique Hotel

While searching out some summer accommodations, I came across this darling boutique hotel freshly redone for the 2013 season.  The decor is so crisp and lovely, I had to share.
The schemes were posted on on their website and twitter which was really fun to see as a decorator.  Rachel Reider did an amazing job.
Love all the blue and white and the patterned pillows are fabulous. Schumacher's Chang Mai fabric is a personal favorite of mine. Beautiful!

Country Living Fair, Rhinebeck, New York

The Country Living Fair features antiques, vintage, handmade and unique items of all kinds as well as demonstrations and great food.  This year, Country Living Magazine added Rhinebeck, New York to its fair schedule.  It takes place at the Duchess County Fairgrounds June 7-9.  It's a beautiful drive up and the air smelled like fresh clover, it was a great day.

 The weather cooperated beautifully!

The Beekman 1802 booth was full of goat milk soaps, notecards, tea towels, ceramic pie pans and tin cups and Brent Ridge (pictured with my daughter) couldn't have been nicer, it was great to meet him.

The Lee Brothers from Charleston, S.C. demonstrated cheese dip, shrimp + grits as well as a strawberry dessert recipe from their latest cookbook.

Charleston

Charleston keeps coming up on my radar lately . . . either friends have gone and highly recommended it or someone blogs about it and a couple people I know have trips planned for the near future.
Yesterday, while waiting for my daughter, I noticed the latest issue of Architectural Digest had a great guide to Charleston.  It is becoming known for its design, history, great food and all the creative types who are either from the city or have relocated.  I can't wait to visit someday.

Juliska Country Estate Dinnerware

Lately, Juliska's Country Estate pattern keeps coming up on my radar.  Juliska makes such beautiful European inspired glassware, ceramics, linens, lighting and flatware.  This pattern is a lovely neutral design that can be mixed with many colors and dinnerware easily.  Isn't it beautiful?

The quintessential English pattern was created by Deborah Sears of Isis Ceramics, a painter, whom Juliska credits as “the finest hand in all of England.”

DIY Pillows

There are many decorative tea towels available now, some are so pretty you don't want to actually use them.  If you have some favorites you want to display, they make great pillows.  Here are two of my favorites by studiopatro.

The neutral color, casual linen and what they say make these special additions to the kitchen.
This project is quick and easy if you have a sewing machine.  Just purchase pillow inserts in the correct size (I bought mine at Jo-Ann's Fabric on sale.)
Fold the towels in half, wrong side out and sew a simple seam, leaving just enough room to stuff the insert. Finish the pillow by hand sewing the remaining opening. Tada! new pillows to freshen up your space.
Here are others that would make great pillows.

Sarah 101

A new season of Sarah 101 is airing in the States.  She renovated the teeniest kitchen and made it functional and cute as a button.  Her individual choices aren't always my favorite but everything always comes together in the end.
Because the space was so small, they went vertical with the storage and kept all the appliances white.  It's difficult to see in this photo but one of my favorite finds is the cabinet hardware.  The long handles are vintage, made of wood and metal and they painted them to compliment the colors in the floor and backsplash.
And another very small space was a nursery for expectant parents.  Tommy came up with the idea to go  safari and it works beautifully.  Love the touches of green!
Above the plate rail, grasscloth wallpaper was used and below, a subtle zebra print.  The dresser and bookcase are vintage and the chair was found on a curb and completely repurposed.  I'd love to have her vintage sources!
Adorable closet.
