White House Christmas 2015

The White House is a fascinating place and I love seeing all the Christmas decorations each year. Here are some photos I've gathered from various sources. To enjoy the full tour and background on all the decorations tune into HGTV on Sunday, December 13th at 6pm.

The White House at Christmas

Am I the only one obsessed with HGTV's special covering The White House at Christmastime?  I hope not :)  Maybe it's because I worked in politics for ten years and lived in Washington, D.C. but also have a passion for design.  Whenever I see this annual special, it takes me right back to my time and work in our nation's capital and all the social events and amazing people I met.  Here are a few photos to enjoy.

The White House gingerbread house is always amazing and the replicas of the First Family's pets are so cute!

These vases are made entirely of sugar "gum paste" flowers and fruit by Maggie Austin Cakes of Alexandria, Virginia.

Decorating The White House for Christmas

Every year I enjoy watching the special covering the preparations of The White House for Christmas.  The fact that volunteers from around the country get to do the actual decorating makes it extra special.  I have a soft spot for Washington, DC after living and working there for so many years in my previous life.  It's exciting to see all that goes into the decor/menus/gingerbread house and I love that so many visitors are hosted each year to enjoy it as well.

 The "Gingerbread" House was made of a bread dough that looks like the stone of which the White House is really made.
