A feast for the eyes

First of all, if you're not on Instagram, you're missing out on a whole world of great photos.  It actually surprised me to discover all the designers and companies that have an account.  My most recent follow is 1stdibs "the most beautiful things on earth."
Wonderful inspiration and gorgeous rooms and items.  This is just one account among many for those who enjoy interiors and home design.
Sarah Nicole Prickett writes in T Magazine, "If Twitter is the street, Facebook the suburban-sprawl mall, and Pinterest some kind of mail-order catalog, Instagram is the many-windowed splendor of a younger Bergdorf’s, showing all we possess or wish for, under squares of filtered glass, each photographic pane backlit 24/7."
If you prefer a more traditional approach to browsing interiors, the December issue of House & Home (Canada) is full of beautiful images.  Issues can be purchased and read online at Zinio.
Here are two of my favorites~
A gorgeous Tommy Smythe project
and the home of married butlers with impeccable taste.  The traditional elements of this beautiful kitchen make it a welcoming and functional space.  If I could renovate my kitchen, it would be very similar to this with marble counter tops, white cabinetry and subway tile.  The pantry with the checkered floor is amazing as well.  But that's the point of these publications and sites, to be inspired and dream about what could be . . .

House Beautiful's Kitchen of the Year 2012

It's that time of year again, the House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year is on display at Rockefeller Center in New York City.  It ends July 20th.  It was designed by Mick De Giulio and is a beautiful living space in addition to being a well equipped kitchen.
Beautiful lights and open shelving.

Great idea for pots and pans--no more digging or stacking.
The butler's pantry is spectacular.  The ceiling, sink and crystal pulls all add very special touches.
Dining and living space.

Outdoor dining and cooking patio.  Beautifully done!

In Defense of the Decorator

There is a very interesting article in the New York Times.  As the daughter of small business owners and a lifelong supporter of "mom and pop" shops, the fact that individual artisans, carpenters, upholsterers, painters and other creative types are supported by decorators who utilize their talents is a great point to remember.

Podge Bune's cottage

House Beautiful's June issue features the amazing Hamptons cottage of designer Podge Bune.  This photo stopped me, I couldn't help but study it--from the pebbled fireplace to the chairs, oh the chairs! Even with some formal touches, it's the kind of room you want to curl up and read a book, entertain or just be comfortable.
Bune's advice:
Don't overthink it--
1. Paint something pink.
2. Hang your pictures floor to ceiling.
3. Buy a quirky chair.
4. Reupholster with old curtains.
5. Plant a rose.
Download House Beautiful Connect, a free app to make the issue come to life.  HB has been very adept at keeping up with the digital age while maintaining a printed publication.

TRADhome magazine

The newest TRADhome is live.  It's a beautiful issue and had me at the cover with those pops of green!  A couple of my favorites so far are the video color conversation between Celerie Kemble and Jamie Drake and Shopping: New Orleans, but I'm not close to being finished.  There's something for everyone :)

Lonny March issue 2012

Last night I read online shelter publication Lonny might not be around anymore . . . but was delighted to see a sneak peek on their blog today of the March issue with many more to come this year.
Good news, indeed.
I want this office space (I'd replace the plants with fresh cut flowers)
